Q: What subject areas will my child receive instruction in?
A: St. Ambrose offers a rigorous academic program aligned with New York State standards in Math, English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. Students are encouraged to use creative thought and expression while developing their foundational academic skills. Students also receive instruction in Religion, Physical Education, Art, Music and Spanish on a weekly basis. Technology is part of each student's daily academic life.
Q: If my child is not showing the progress we expected, how will my child be supported?
A: Each student is viewed as an individual with varying academic needs. The classroom teacher strives to differentiate instruction and assessment to meet those needs. Should a student need additional academic support, St. Ambrose offers an Academic Intervention Service (A.I.S.) which is a support program for students showing a deficit in Math or E.L.A.. Mrs. Kristen Campito works with the faculty to create an academic plan on a case by case basis. Students typically meet in a small group or one-on-one setting to work on foundational skills which boost their confidence and independent skills. We have often seen great success with this program whether in a small group or in a “push-in” setting. Students may phase in or out of this program based on their academic needs.
Q: My child has a documented I.E.P., how will my child receive the services mandated?
A: St. Ambrose is blessed to have a great partnership with the North Colonie School District. NCSD provides staffing to support students who have required services and these services are provided right in our building. The NCSD staff works diligently with classroom teachers to create a schedule that fits each students’ requirements while maintaining a traditional school schedule.
